A dissapointing Day at the Great Barrier Reef

We did the Great Barrier Reef outer reef tour in Cairns. The initial destination was the Green Island where by you had about two hrs to explore. Not sufficient time in reality since there had been plenty of people about. Don’t neglect to bring insect repellant because there are a lot of mosquitos around. Snorkelling around the shore was okay, although it was nothing amazing.

After that it’s off to the outer reef (Moore Reef) and their pontoon. As others have noted, it’s good for the multitude of passengers on the cruise. The alleged underwater observatory was a disappointment – I have seen better in the aquariums in Sydney or Brisbane . They have not got around to cleansing the glass so it wasn’t easy to view anything through the windows. My spouse said the same factor about their semi-submarine tour which I didn’t get to do mainly because we just simply ran out of time.

After the scuba-doo, I went for a dive. It may be because it was the monsoon season but the visibility wasn’t as good as I’d hoped . Maybe it is different when you do a serious dive trip but with this form of cruise, you don’t get too dive any other sites. Corals were more of the gray and brown shades. Fish, whilst there were countless, were nothing at all out of the ordinary. Then to top if off, my diveguide just swum around in circles, not even going out of his way to show the wonders of the reef.

By the time the dive was completed, I had just about adequate time to eat and change (if my spouse had not set aside lunch for me, there was nothing left to eat) – hence, I missed the semi-sub trip. If it wasn’t for the scuba-doo, this would have been a particularly ordinary Cairns Tour .
